US DATA: Ahead of chain store sales data Thursday, MasterCard/Spending
Pulse releases their September 2010 retail report, with mixed results,
with some sectors doing better than others. Consumer Electronics and
Appliances sales were up 4.3% y-o-y the fourth consecutive month of
y-o-y gains. Total US apparel sales wer up 3.8% in Sept following
a 2.6% gain in August. The Luxury-ex Jewelry sales category was down
by 5.4% last month, the sector’s second consecutive month of y-o-y
decreases. ECommerce sales were up 7.8% in Sept, “with the Apparel
sub-category leading the way with an increase of 13.4% and all
sub-categories except jewelry being comfortable in positive territory,”
MCSP says.
