Highlights of the May US retail sales report from the Commerce Dept:
- Prior control group was -0.1% (revised to +0.2%)
- Headline advance retail sales +0.3% vs +0.6% exp
- Prior headline revised to +0.5% vs +0.1%
- Ex-autos and gas 0.0% vs +0.4%
- Prior ex-autos and gas revised to +0.3% vs -0.1%
Soft numbers across the board but they’re mitigated by revisions. The kneejerk has been to sell the US dollar. USD/JPY down to 102.03 from 102.13. Cable touched a session high and the euro bumped 15 pips higher but follow through has been limited so far.
