The October consumer confidence index from the Conference Board:
- Lowest since April
- Prior reading was 79.7 (revised to 80.2)
- Present situation 70.7 vs 73.5 prior
- Jobs-hard-to-get index 35.8 vs 33.6 prior
consumer confidence
The drop in confidence is no big surprise, given the shutdown, what to watch will be if consumers actually changed their behaviour and how quick confidence rebounds. Overall, a reading of 71.2 is still fairly healthy.
