US payroll tax cut to be a victim of the fiscal cliff?

Looks like a bit of a political orphan at the moment, CNN Money reports.

The problem with all these temporary measures is that, like a band aid, it hurts when they are removed. Congress rarely has the testicular fortitude to take away goodies from the electorate once they’ve handed them out.

It also pains the government to stop taking your money “temporarily”. Case in point: A tax on telephone service imposed to fund the Spanish American war lasted for 108 years.
