S&P and NASDAQ are lower. Dow industrial average up marginally
The major US stock indices ended the day near the lows.
- S&P index was down 5.85 points or -0.27%. The low came in at 2198.81 which was also the closing level. The index traded as high as 2214.10.
- Nasdaq composite index fell by 56.238 points or 1.05%. The index closed at 5323.68. This too was the low price for the day. The high rreached 5393.148 near the day's opening.
- Dow industrial average was up 1.98 point sort +0.01% to 19123.58. The low for the day was 19123.38. At one point the Dow was up over 100 points.
For the month, the Dow led the way in the US and Europe with a gain of 5.41%. The Mexican IPC was the weakest at -5.64%. The catalyst was the Trump victory which benefited the large multi-nationals in the Dow. Of course, the Mexican market was hit on fears of repeal of NAFTA from the Trump administration.
In Europe, Spain's Ibex was the worst performer at -4.98%. The largest gainers were out of Stockholm (OMX was up 2.41%) and France (CAC up 1.53%). The German Dax was near unchanged at -0.23%., the UK FTSE was down -2.45%, and the Euro Stoxx 50 was down -0.12%.
