The definitive list of market closures on Good Friday.

The forex market is open every weekday no matter what but it will be extremely thin trading with much of the financial world on holiday for Good Friday.

  • Good Friday isn't a federally mandated holiday in the United States but the New York Stock Exchange is closed.
  • Chicago Mercantile Exchange stock index futures are open for regular trade at 2200 GMT on Thursday but only trade from 8:30 am (when NFP is released) until 9:15 am ET (1315 GMT) on Friday.
  • CME commodity and energy futures close at the regular time of 5:15 pm ET (2115 GMT) and don't reopen until Sunday at 6 pm ET (2200 GMT).
  • Interest rate and forex futures will close at 11:15 am ET (1515 GMT)
  • The bond market recommended close is noon ET (1600 GMT) on Friday
  • Canadian markets are fully closed on Friday
  • India's stock market was closed on Thursday and will remain closed on Friday for Mahavir Jayanti
  • UK markets are closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday
  • All major European markets are closed on Good Friday

It's bizarre that the US Bureau of Labor Statistics releases a jobs report on Good Friday and is a policy that should be changed but it's not unusual. It has occurred 11 times since 1980, including 2010 and 2012.
