A survey by the UK's Institute of Directors' (IoD), its confidence index, dropped to -28 in December
- from -21 in November
- it had been rising from June into November
- this index plots the gap between business leaders who are optimistic about the economy and those who are pessimistic
- expectations for business investment, costs and wages, and employment were all little changed
