• Markets were disappointed by results of December EU summit
• Will insist at EU level on increase in EFSF firepower
• Without stronger EFSF countries with high debt will be in difficulty (I think he’s onto something)
• No justification for current Italy bond spreads
• Will meet with UK’s Cameron and Germany’s Merkel in January
• Will also meet wuith France’s Sarkozy in January
• Will be very insistent on liberalisation, competition measures
• Must find modern measures to encourage companies to create jobs
