TOKYO (MNI) – Finance Minister Jun Azumi told a small group of
reporters on Monday that Tokyo “has not fixed yet” how much it will
contribute to the International Monetary Fund.

His remarks denied news reports during the weekend that Japan is
likely to contribute some $60 billion to the IMF, as a step to bail out
some indebted Euro nations.

He previously said Tokyo would decide on its stance on the
contribution after consulting other nations such as China ahead of the
G20 meeting scheduled in Washington this weekend.

Another MOF senior official said to reporters that Tokyo “welcomes”
China’s decision to will widen the yuan’s daily trading band against
the U.S. dollar to 1% around the central parity from 0.5%, adding that
the decision will help ease inflationary pressure in China.
