Economy minister Akira Amari spoke on a Sunday talk show on national TV broadcaster NHK

“it’s being said that the correction of the strong yen is largely completed. If the yen keeps on weakening a lot more, it will have a negative impact on peoples’ lives.”

  • Amari said that if the weakening of the yen does have a negative impact on living costs, “it’s our job to figure out how to minimize that”
  • Energy costs are a key concern, so a response may be to increase imports of shale gas from the U.S., and accelerate the restarting of nuclear reactors

I posted on this earlier (here)

Also, on a related note:

  • Amari said the government will decide on whether to raise the consumption tax next year around October, but “The most important factor is that we can confirm the economy has shifted to an uptrend at that point,”
