U.K. recruiting firm Hays surveyed managers at roughly 2,600 companies in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.

Each was asked how much they plan to increase employee pay on average this year.

A sizable majority of Japanese respondents (64%) say they will raise wages by 3% or less; 12% plan no hikes

  • 19% intend to increase salaries by 3-6%
  • 3% are planning raises of 6-10%
  • 2% will boost pay by more than 10%

For China

  • 91% of companies planning raises of more than 3%

Malaysia is at 89% and Singapore at 73%

The average for Asia as a whole was 69%.
