A reporter on CNBC says a Ukrainian separatist leader says the passenger plane was mistaken for a Ukrainian military transport plane. Others have denied it but it’s the most plausible explanation for the crash.
The question is: Do you blame Russia for the crash because they stoked the conflict? Probably, but this is also a chance for Russia to bury the separatist movement.
Something positive for risk markets would be Russia shifting now to a hard line against the separatists. That would signal the beginning of the end of the conflict.
