Bloomberg carries a piece today on a Der Spiegel report (citing unidentified government officials in Berlin) saying German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s administration sees a potential Greek exit from the euro area as manageable
- Merkel and Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble both view the shared-currency area as capable of withstanding Greece’s departure
- Its thought a Greek exit would be almost unavoidable if a new government led by Syriza’s Alexis Tsipras were to renege on spending cuts and fail to service Greek debt

Greece will hold elections on January 25
Polls have New Democracy and Pasok, Greece’s two main parties over the past four decades, trailing Tsipras’s anti-austerity Syriza alliance
