Bernanke has three months left as Fed Chairman but 8 years at the top still hasn’t blunted the vitriol directed at his predecessor.
At 87, Greenspan still hasn’t been able to ride off into the sunset and is doing the rounds promoting his latest book but the wounds are still fresh and the Guardian is saying he owes America an apology.
This man has nothing to tell the country about the economy and the media is not doing its job to imply otherwise. If Greenspan doesn’t have the decency to keep himself out of public view after all the damage he has done to the country, then the media should do it for him. The only thing he has to say that would be newsworthy is that he’s sorry.
The Globe and Mail is a bit more sympathetic but asks him directly why he hasn’t apologized.
Q: You sound surprised that Americans are demanding contrition from you. If not you, where should they redirect their frustrations?
A: The problem is that I tried my best with forecasting. It’s not an exact science, and if you come out with 75 per cent accuracy, that’s extraordinarily good. And with the issue of contrition, if you are somehow doing something unethical or immoral, that does require apology. But no one has accused me of that.
Besides his lack of contrition, it’s hard to pinpoint why everyone hates him so much.
