He's the odds-on favorite
Bank of England Governor Mark Carney ends his term in January and that's just about the time that the top job at the IMF is opening up -- now the Christine Lagarde has been tapped to lead the central bank.
His resume and the timing have made Carney the odds on favorite to lead the fund. Betway pegs him as the favorite followed by George Osborne, Britain's former chancellor of the Exchequer and Raghuram Rajan, former governor of the Reserve Bank of India. Another idea to smooth over the ECB appointment would be to give the ECB's Villeroy or Coeure the job.
Carney's main problem is that he's Canadian and the IMF has always been led by a European. There's also a question about whether he wants the job. The report hints that he's considering a move into Canadian politics.
