Another steady rate verdict is assured and universally expected as this extended period of 1.5% cash moves beyond 2 years.
We expect the RBA's upbeat narrative to remain intact but it may well be tempered by several factors and we will be watching for any discussion around
- 1) the lift in variable mortgage rates by Westpac,
- 2) a rather disappointing Q2 capex survey and spending plans,
- 3) continued disappointing Chinese data and further supportive measures from policy makers
- and 4) ongoing global trade tensions. These factors may start to impact their assessment of risk around their central case forecasts.
