...and other things we've learned about Powell
The profiles of Powell are coming fast.
Here he is at Princeton in 1975.
What we've learned:
- His reported assets are worth between $19.7m and $55m
- His dad was a lawyer and his mother was a part-time fundraiser for the RNC
- In a 2011 closed-door meeting he called-out House Republicans for refusing to raise the debt ceiling
- People close to him say he will never air concerns publically
- He loosened the Fed dress code this summer
- His wife is Elissa Leonard who is a filmmaker who graduated from Harvard
- He has 3 children in their early 30s or late 20s named Sam, Lucy and Susie
- He's 64
- He drives a Tesla
- He has a BA in politics from Princeton and a law degree from Georgetown
"He is remarkably undogmatic," says Jeremy Stein, a Harvard University economics professor, Democrat and former Fed governor whose office was adjacent to Mr. Powell's. "He listens more than he talks."
It sounds like he will be pragmatic, not dogmatic. He also likes to keep quiet so don't expect to see him on the cover of every magazine or to be opening up on his thoughts in the quarterly press conference.
The WSJ calls him "Mr Ordinary". Reuters writes that he was angling for a job of vice-chair of supervision but lost out to Quarles but one thing led to another.
