Japan's nuclear reactors are a way the country can limit the vast amounts of energy resources it needs to import.
Lifting the 60 year cap on reactor lifespan would be another way in which the country is trying to address high energy prices (and low yen!). The cap was introduced after the 2011 Fukushima disaster.
