BOJ governor Kuroda touched on cryptocurrencies earlier

  • Says that European and US central banks are also cautious to issue digital currencies for use by the general public
  • There are various problems of central banks issuing digital currencies that were debated at the G20, BIS meetings
  • These problems included the impact on financial intermediation as well as that of cyber security

While Japan is one of the more open and receptive nations towards cryptocurrencies, it's no surprise that the central bank is slightly more reserved and conservative on the matter. After all, it'll only add one more headache to Kuroda's growing list of problems in helping to plan an exit from the BOJ's current easing policies.
