50 years is a lot longer in markets than in music

50 years ago today the Beatles released Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club band

While you enjoy that, ponder this:

In 1967:

  • Gold traded at $26/oz (+3555%)
  • USD/JPY traded at 357 (-69.8%)
  • Shares of GE, adjusted for splits and inflation traded at 18-cents. Today $27.80 (+154x)

So 50 years ago you could have bought a Sgt. Pepper's for $1 or a few shares of GE and turned them into $154.

I'd say Sgt. Pepper's was the better investment.
