Details of the April 2016 UK visible trade balance data report 9 June 2016

  • Prior -11.204bn. Revised to -10.646bn

  • Exports 11.2% vs -2.1% prior

  • Imports 5.7% vs -0.8% prior

  • Trade bal -3.298bn vs -3.700bn exp. Prior -3.380bn. Revised to -3.532bn

  • Non-EU -2.602bn vs -3.200bn exp. Prior -3.114bn. Revised to -2.863bn

  • EU trade -7.924bn vs -7.783bn prior

A very nice jump in exports led by Chemicals, machinery and oil.

I've highlighted the EU trade balance because it shows what Europe will miss out on each month if they follow through on threats about delayed trade deals on a Brexit.

The lower deficit also shows that trade hasn't been overly affected by the Brexit noise. We'll, unless everyone is front running in the case of us leaving ;-)
