Australia - Westpac Consumer Confidence for April down 4% m/m to 95.1
prior was -2.2% m/m to 99.7
Yesterday we got Business confidence (and conditions)
The weekly data from ANZ/Roy Morgan has been showing falling consumer confidence, so this shouldn't come as too much of a surprise
- Index is now 6.4% below its reading six months ago
- Four of the five components of the Index fell in April
Comments from Westpac on today's result:
- 'Disappointing'
- appears that international and market developments continue to create unease for respondents although the signals are mixed
- Australian sharemarket fell 3% over the month
- Media coverage on China continues to highlight risks
- On the other hand the US sharemarket rose 2.4%
- Specific sentiment towards housing fell sharply
-
C'mon Aussie consumers, get confident!

1. Turn off the TV (Srsly ... are you really enjoying all those awful cooking and house-flipping shows?)
2. Get off the couch
3. Stand up
4. Adopt the 'Wonder Woman Power Pose'
