Clerks have deemed the amendment to be 'in scope'
That means that it is legally sound. This is basically the bare minimum but at least it ensures that the amendment is valid and should not run into much trouble later - not that the bar was set very high in the first place since the amendment is basically just proposing alternative arrangements be made to the Irish backstop.
This is being reported by The Telegraph deputy political editor, Steven Swinford, who also notes that there is significant levels of support for the amendment. It will now come down to John Bercow and whether or not he selects it for a vote later this evening.
The pound continues to bounce around on the day with cable touching a high of 1.3177 earlier before falling back to 1.3150 levels currently.
