Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) data for October (via Reuters)

British car production rose by an annual 3.5 percent

  • exports +5 percent
  • domestic demand -2.9 percent

SMMT Chief Executive Mike Hawes

  • "It's encouraging to see positive growth in exports this month and a slight increase in overall output"
  • But it remained a concern that domestic sales, on course to fall this year for the first time since 2011, had been hit by weak consumer confidence

More via Reuters as background:

  • Last year, UK production reached a 17-year high of 1.72 million cars
  • SMMT said output would now only marginally rise to 1.73 million this year, according to an independent report it had commissioned, held back by model changes and falling domestic demand.

If I'm reading that right, last year was a 17 year high and this year its going to be even higher. Not too shabby at all.
