Some background of the situation in the links above. Xinhua is now reporting that China is stating that Michael Kovrig, the first Canadian citizen arrested in this whole drama, has violated Chinese laws by spying and stealing intelligence.
Chinese authorities believe that Michael Spavor - the second person detained - provided Kovrig with intelligence, though there is no mention of what form of intel that was shared. For some context, Spavor has very close ties with North Korea and he is among those involved who facilitated Kim Jong Un's meeting with basketball star Dennis Rodman back in 2013.
