According to the latest Reuters poll conducted among 45 economists
- 80% expect the ECB to either cut its deposit rate further and have a tiered system or tweak forward guidance
- Others expect the ECB to restart its QE program
- Among those who expect easing, 80% forecast it to come before end-September
- One-third of those polled expect it to happen as early as next month i.e. July
It isn't so much a question of if the ECB will ease monetary policy now as it is a question of when. With the Fed opting to go down the easing path, there is little doubt that the ECB will have to do the same as well over the next few months.
