UK monthly GDP figures among the mix today

Good day, everyone! Hope you're all doing well as we get into the European trading session later. It's been a continuation of overnight moves so far to begin the new day with the dollar on the back foot after going full 180º in the US trading session yesterday.

The docket ahead doesn't have much in terms of major releases but the key themes remain in focus and more so the geopolitical nature of things i.e. Brexit and Italy.

0645 GMT - France August manufacturing and industrial production data

Prior report can be found here. A minor data point and one that is a gauge of factory activity in the French economy. Feeds into overall Eurozone economic sentiment.

0800 GMT - Italy August industrial production data

Likewise, similar to the French reading above, it's more of a general sentiment indicator of factory activity among the Eurozone economies.

0830 GMT - UK August monthly GDP data

0830 GMT - UK August trade balance data

0830 GMT - UK August industrial, manufacturing, construction output

Prior reports can be found here and here respectively. Focus is on the monthly GDP figures but even then it's not really something that is expected to produce a blockbuster reaction in markets. The key focus for the pound remains that of Brexit - as evident by overnight trading - and will stay that way during this period. The factory output data will feed into general sentiment indicators of the UK economy, but their contributions will be captured by the GDP data release as well.

1100 GMT - US MBA mortgage applications w.e. 5 October

Weekly US housing data, measures the change in number of applications for mortgages backed by the MBA during the week. Not the biggest of data points, but a general indicator of the housing sector sentiment.

Also to come at 0910 GMT, we have BOE chief economist Andy Haldane speaking in London. He'll be speaking about "Shaping the future of work to build prosperity". Not really something that pertains too much to monetary policy - if at all.

That's all for the session. I wish you all the best of days ahead and as always, good luck with your trading!
