Cohn wades into the race debate
Gary Cohn may be next to draw Donald Trump's ire.
The White House tax guru told the FT that he was "compelled to voice my distress" and that the administration "must do better" to condemn white supremacists.
Cohn said in his first public comments on the issue:
"I have come under enormous pressure both to resign and to remain in my current position. As a patriotic American, I am reluctant to leave my post... But I also feel compelled to voice my distress over the events of the last two weeks... Citizens standing up for equality and freedom can never be equated with white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and the KKK."
Axios reports that "a source close to Trump" predicted he will explode when he reads the interview.
"It's got all the ingredients to enrage the president: a subordinate criticizing him, and an effective endorsement of how the mainstream media portrayed the events," Axios writes.
The comments come as Cohn is preparing to unveil the tax overhaul that he's championed. It could also jeopardize his chances of being named Chairman of the Federal Reserve.
