Had honest talk with Trump on climate, trade and Ukraine
Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel comments to reporters at G7 in Siciliy
- US-made clear it won't decide on climate change at G7
- G7 controversy over climate and trade issues
- Remains unclear what final G7 statement will look like
- Lvely and honest discussion between leaders
- She had honest talk with Trump on climate, trade, Ukraine
Well, she got to the microphone first, ahead of Trump.
There is no doubt that Trump ruffled some feathers, but he remains true to "America First" pledge, and his views on climate change. In doing so (along with his brash way of doing things) he alienates himself (and the US) from other world leaders, but he views his position as one of strength.
At the same time, do not expect leaders to necessarily bow down. We saw PM May stand up with regard to the leaks about Manchester. Merkel is also not one to back down either and I am sure she came back with facts about investment in US especially with regard to the auto industry. Time will tell how relations and cooperation pans out internationally. It is not going to be all "happy families", but you want to have levels of cooperation as well.
