There are two debates ongoing. One is about whatever Iran is trying to achieve, like if they're truthful about their nuclear aims. The second is whether sanctions are useful in any situation. Iran is saying they aren't and there's plenty of evidence 80 miles south of Miami to say they aren't. But they're one of those things that helps politicians win an election because it shows they're doing 'something', but all they do is impoverish people who are already poor.
