Speaking after nomination of Guiseppi Conte as new PM
The League leader Matteo Salvini, is on the wires saying:
- European commissioners mustn't worry about the direction of the new Italian government
- Says will put Italian national interests first
- Aim is to make Italy grow to reduce debt
The new coalition government's contract has proposed billions of euros in tax cuts, increased welfare payments for the poor, and the scrapping of an unpopular pension reform.
The coalition has nominated Giuseppe Conte to Italian president Sergio Mattarella. Mattarella, must approve the program. He also has a final say on the nominee.
