Magnitude reported at 5.9 (preliminary magnitude)

  • Earthquake in the northern part of Osaka Prefecture
  • Maximum earthquake magnitude 6
  • Rated at 5 on Japan's 7-point scale - 'strong'
  • depth 10km
  • No tsunami alert has been issued

Revised magnitude of 5.3, but do note its at a depth of only 10km, relatively shallow

  • Takatsuki, Japan (in the Osaka prefecture)

Rated at lower 6 on Japan's scale, this is a serious quake …

  • "Strongly and severely felt outside. Light posts swing, and electric poles can fall down, causing fires.
  • Less earthquake-resistant houses collapse and even walls and pillars of other homes are damaged. Apartment buildings can collapse by floors falling down onto each other."
