ANZ's 'Truckometer' is an indicator of traffic flows in New Zealand; a proxy for economic growth in NZ

Heavy traffic indicator is the headline, drops 2.0% m/m

  • prior revised to 0.2% from 0.4%

ANZ comments:

  • indexes were pretty stable in March
  • The Heavy Traffic fell 2.0% m/m while the Light Traffic lifted 0.7% m/m.
  • The two indexes agree growth in Q1 was pretty similar to the preceding quarter
  • While the Light Traffic Index suggests a broad loss of momentum, and in particular unimpressive growth in Q2 and Q3, there are tentative signs of a bottoming.
