Japanese stocks rise in mixed session for Asian equities

Modest risk sentiment in Asia is helping to lift the mood in Japan as stocks rise as E-minis recovered from their lows in early trading (now down by 0.2% from 0.5% earlier). However, Chinese stocks remain on the back foot and are trading near flat levels currently close to session lows. And that is keeping risk appetite from posting further gains after a strong showing in Wall St overnight.

Plenty of focus is still on the Trump-Xi summit to come over the weekend and Trump's tariffs comment here won't help much with easing investors' nerves. It's a bit of a uncertain start for risk today and that's not really helping with sentiment among the major currencies in what is a mixed opening thus far.
