More details from the Bloomberg headline earlier

  • Identity of countries is expected to be released officially on Monday
  • But list said to include China, Japan, India, South Korea
  • Waivers are only temporary
  • US expects countries that get them to keep cutting Iranian oil imports in the months ahead

The Bloomberg report is citing a senior US administration official as well as two other people familiar with the discussions. But if this turns out to be true, then basically the sanctions to be applied starting next Monday is basically worthless as the list covers all of Iran's major oil importers.

This means that the market will still be flooded with supplies from Iran and it's going to take a prolonged period before we start seeing a real squeeze in supplies as those countries will try their best not to cut down on imports so long as they can get away with it.
