Further to Adam’s post yesterday there has now been a state of emergency declared in New South Wales for the next 30 days after fires have destroyed over 200 homes already. The fire disaster is now the worst in NSW for over 40 years.
NSW Rural Fire Services Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons has said that the entire Blue Mountains and the suburbs of western Sydney around Penrith and Richmond are in danger of burning over the next few days, as hotter and drier than expected weather conditions combine with huge fire fronts already burning.

We are not talking necessarily at this stage of mass evacuations of the entire Blue Mountains community.But what we can’t rule out is that there will be parts that may well be evacuated. We have very changing, dynamic, volatile situations that will unfold over the next three to four days
