The loonie led the way

It was an impressive week for the Canadian dollar despite a setback on NAFTA. The currency rallied strongly at the start of the week on higher oil, better sentiment, Xi's comments at Boao and domestic data.

It was the top performer on the week.

On the other side of the ledger was the Japanese yen, which struggled as stocks and yields globally posted a strong week.

The leaderboard was similar last week as the seasonal pattern of better risk appetite and gains for commodities in April continued.
