Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and national security adviser John Bolton just left Pentagon following meeting with acting defense secretary Patrick Shanahan in secure conference room known as 'The Tank' to discuss military options for Venezuela, according to an unnamed senior defense official cited by Fox's Lucas Tomlinson.
The belief earlier this week was that the military had lined up a few generals to switch sides when Guiado made his call for an uprising but that didn't go according to plan. Guiado is losing a bit of momentum so they US may attempt something more drastic.
It's a risk for oil heading into the weekend. WTI is up 64 cents to $71.37 but hasn't reacted to this report.
