The data provides information on the number of announced corporate layoffs by industry and region and acts as a general labour market indicator. Total job cuts in 2018 amounted to 538,659 and that's up 28.6% from the 2017 total and is the highest amount of cuts since 2015. Further details reveal that retail cuts comprised of 18.3% of all announced cuts in 2018.
