The data provides information on the number of announced corporate layoffs by industry and region and acts as a general labour market indicator. That's quite a substantial jump in the number of layoffs seen although the data point here is known to be rather volatile at times. It's not one that tends to provide much of a hint ahead of tomorrow's jobs report but certainly something to keep in mind with regards to the health of the US labour market.
