Eurozone April inflation figures could have a hint of Easter seasonality to
We're kicking off inflation figures in the Eurozone this week with Italy and Germany (including the state readings starting at the top of the hour). Estimates are for those readings to come in a little softer than prior figures, with Eurozone figures due on 3 May also expected to show a dip compared to the previous month.
April core Eurozone inflation is expected to fall to 0.9% y/y from 1.0% y/y in March. But don't look too much into this month's reading, as mentioned earlier here.
The timing of Easter tends to mess up with headline inflation readings, so it's tough to attribute any significant dip to other underlying causes. Here's a look at past April inflation readings based on Easter dates:
Easter was on 1 April this year (considered an early date like 2013 and 2016). So, just be a little wary of that when you glance over the inflation figures in the Eurozone this month. The devil is always in the details.
