Yuko Obuchi is Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. Japanese weekend media are reporting she plans to resign in the wake of the reports of the misuse of funds, which could violate electoral and political funding laws.
The reports say Obuchi told aides to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Friday that she is ready to step down amid the accusations. They go on to say Abe will decide whether to accept Yuko Obuchi’s resignation when he returns from Italy on Saturday.

I should clarify … I often refer to Akira Amari as Japan’s “Economy Minister” …. he is not who this report is referring to. Amari’s actual cabinet position is Minister of State for Economic Revitalization.
