China's Ambassador to Australia has confirmed his country will resume the importing of Australian timber from today.
The background to this is that since 2020 Australia's AUD1.6 bn annual timber trade with China has been suspended.
Ambassador Xiao Qian has told reporters in Canberra that the import ban has now been lifted.
- "Yesterday the Chinese Customs have formally notified the Australian Minister of Agriculture that starting from today China will resume import of Australian timbers."
