The ruling Japanese LDP is considering a one time reduction of 40,000 yen per person in taxes as part of an economic stimulus package, according to NIkkei. Both taxpayers and their dependants would qualify so the extra money could be significant for a household.

Non-taxpayers could also qualify for 70,000 yen in cash assistance.

The overall package would cost the heavily-indebted country around 5 trillion yen and could be announced in early November.

The move is billed as an effort to ease the pain of inflation, which is an odd thing to be contemplating given that the BOJ still has rates zeroed out.
